Today we augered our supposed well, to see if it actually is... a well. And it turns out the Roman cut does indeed go down a long way! After much huffing and puffing, at about 2 and a half metres down we hit both the natural Oxford Clay and the water table. So tomorrow the shoring will be going in, and we will be all set to safely excavate downwards.
In other news, yesterday 2 lovely copper alloy hair pins were uncovered, one of which had a small bird on the top. Lovely things to see on our Open Day on the 19th July!
